Chez Maquignon - A Large Semi-detached rustic Farmhouse with Swimming Pool and 2 Fishing Lakes

Each Farmhouse is fully self contained and will sleep up to 7 people plus a cot and are very large by english standards - ON ONE LEVEL FOR EASY ACCESS suitable for people with mobility difficulty or wheelchair users.

Fully restored, Maquignon is set in the tranquil countryside of Charente, yet only 1 hour to Bordeaux, Royan and La Rochelle, 30 mins to Angouleme, St Emillion and Aubiterre, 2 hours from Poitiers, Futuroscope and Biarritz. Adjoins National Park.

The two Farmhouses are part of a group of buildings with the owner also having a house on the site. The houses were a poste relay on horseback, the last one between Paris and Bordeaux, has lots of history, we've been told by our Mayor, that the Tzar of Russia and his family, stayed in our houses. En route to Bordeaux, their carriage wheel shattered and they were taken to Maquignon whilst a new wheel was made in Baignes. They were there for several days.

The thick stone walls of the houses built 250-300 years ago keep the houses cool in summer. South facing. Set in over an acre of landscaped gardens with lawns sweeping down to the 12m swimming pool, which has a roman end with steps for easy access. Each house has its own terrace and ample garden furniture and sun lounger's are provided, also a BBQ, children's bikes, etc. The property is fully fenced for safety and security. The fishing lake in the grounds is stocked with carp up to 30lbs, tench etc. The other lake is a few minutes' walk on our property in the woodland and is stocked with carp to over 45lbs, tench, perch, roach etc. This lake is for the experienced angler, due to its isolation and depth and children are not allowed there unsupervised.

The area of Charente is well known for its excellent cuisine, cognacs and wines. In the local area alone, there are several fantastic auberges and many fabulous restaurants to visit. The Charentaise people are well known to be the friendliest and warmest of people, especially to the English, with whom they share a romantic historic past. In nearby towns, there is a wonderful variety of shops, as well as historic and futuristic sights to see, and places of interest to visit. Maquignon, set in rural South West France, is such a peaceful place for unwinding and relaxing and enjoying the countryside, yet set in such a way that you can travel around and enjoy the "chic, splendour and culture" that France is renowned for.
